About $400 Worth of Hololive Weiẞ Schwarz Cards

Nothing says you have a problem like buying a bunch of cards for a Trading Card Game that you don’t even play, or might not even have any intention of playing. I don’t think I’ve touched a physical TCG since giving up on both Pokemon and MtG in the early 2000’s, so I’m a little scared of whatever spirit possessed me to drop $400 on a bunch of first edition Hololive Weiẞ Schwarz cards.

Let me lay this out in the most honestly pathetic manner I can:

I have never played Weiẞ Schwarz…

I barely know how to play Weiẞ Schwarz…

I don’t know anyone who knows how to play Weiẞ Schwarz…

I don’t even think I know anyone who has heard of Weiẞ Schwarz…

I ordered all of these from Manta Trading, which seems like the only place I could get the English prints in Canada. On my first visit to their site, I managed to get one of each of the trials decks EXCEPT for Gen 3, which had already sold out.

Gee whiz, I wonder whose fault that would be…

I visited the page sometime closer to release, and I upped their expected allotment, so I preordered a Gen 3 deck to complete the set. The way the packs were sent to me was a bit odd. I was notified that my Gen 3 deck was shipped first (without anything else), so I was a bit surprised when I opened the box and found the full set of seven decks; everything but the boosters. The packing sheet had a hand-written note saying that the boosters got delayed two weeks, so those would ship out later. Fantastic customer service, although I do feel they could have emailed me instead…

The seven trial decks are based around the various generations of Hololive JP. They’re all ready to play, 50 cards in total, and include either a random foil card or (and I didn’t get any of these) an autographed card. There’s also a play mat and a guide on how to play that specific deck, on top of the actual rules sheet. The booster boxes did include a pair of Special PR packs that had random personalities from Hololive EN and ID.

What’s really strange, or at least a change from what I had gotten used to in my MtG/Pokemon days, is that the cards in the trial decks are exclusive to the trial decks. I guess that means I could try to make something interesting by mixing the cards in the boosters into the trial decks. At this point, I’m still trying to figure out the rules (it can’t be as complicated as Magic, can it?), and I’ve only opened up one of the booster boxes. Since I don’t have anyone to actually play with, I wonder how much more I’m willing to get myself invested in this.
